ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Vice Principal [Academics]

·         Liaison between the Year Heads and the Head of the Institute.

·         Plan assessment and evaluation strategies that address a full range of outcomes such as skills, knowledge and attitudes.

·         Use student assessment data to revise program and to implement appropriate instructional strategies.

·         Communicate with parents about student progress/shortfalls in a manner that is clear, objective and timely.

·         Establish proper professional support system at school level.

·         Co-ordinate professional development program through the Head of the Department.

·         Value the professional contributions of colleagues.

·         Perform supervision responsibilities.

·         Promote student and staff morale.

·         Work co-operatively to implement change.

Class Teacher

·         Organize furniture and materials to facilitate successful learning.

·         Provide classroom space for individual, small group and large group learning.

·         Develop and maintain a physically safe learning environment for students.

·         Encourage student responsibility for maintaining a clean and orderly environment.

·         Ensure that classroom displays are relevant, representative, attractively arranged and current.

·         Practice and encourage effective use of classroom time.

·         Provide individual learning assistance to help students succeed.

·         Communicate with parents/guardians about their child’s progress/shortfall, class activities and expectation.

Head of the Department

·         Enhance the learning environment through the contribution of guests, parents, other teachers and students.

·         Enrich the learning environment through experiences beyond the classroom and the school.

·         Practice and encourage effective use of classroom.

·         Deliver an active, stimulating program that is supported by resource material, appropriate to the topic and the student’s developmental levels.

·         Organize the timing and pacing of lessons to respond to the developmental stages of learning and adjust appropriately.

·         Participate in professional development activities and share information and resources.

·         Assist and support new teachers.

·         Participate in program and instructional planning with colleagues.

·         Share time and expertise with colleagues.

·         Overall supervision of syllabus coverage and lesson plan.

·         Provide an adequate number of learning materials appealing to a wide range of individual needs, learning styles and abilities.

·         Make learning materials accessible to all students. Inter-vision: Intra-Department  (Confidentiality maintained)

Subject teachers

·         Teachers are professionals responsible for making the choices that lead to successful learning outcomes.

·         Seek better ways to help learners grow.

·         Provide varied opportunities for students to learn such as through doing, sensing, observing, and listening and problem solving.

·         Ensure that classroom displays are relevant,  appropriate and current.

·         Extend the learning environment through effective use of school space such as the library.

·         Systematically monitor academic achievement and provide feedback.

Academic Session

  The school academic session commences at the beginning of March and finishes at the end of December. Only one long vacation is observed which extends from the end of December until beginning of March. A short summer break of about two weeks is given after the Mid Term Examination sometime in Mid July.
