VISION:

NURTURE DEVELOPMENT ORIENTED CITIZENS THROUGH AN EDUCATION THAT IS QUALITATIVE, RELEVANT, EQUITABLE AND HUMANE THAT PREPARES THEM NOT ONLY TO LEAD A PRODUCTIVE LIFE BUT TO PLAY EFFECTIVE ROLES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COUNTRY.

The role of the education system in the life of a country is clearly of vital importance to the future of that country. What and particularly how children learn in school today provides a model for how they will take their place in the society as adults tomorrow. Unlike other countries, which have rushed into ‘modernization’, the small Himalayan country has maintained a rich store of cultural traditions and local wisdom to draw onto support a major policy decision to offer wholesome education to the Bhutanese children. The government’s thrust for a quality assurance has indicated a charged and changing climate of expectations for school and the management of them, one of the expectations is academic excellence!

Yangchenphug High School considers academic excellence as the base for wholesome education. And it is believed that when one thinks of academic excellence, one thinks of an education that will lead students to accomplish a number of expectations and some of the expectations towards academic excellence include students learning how to:

-Learn

-Think creatively

-Solve problems

-Reason abstractly

-Gain sound literacy at numerical skills

-Gain a level of technical, scientific and organizational skills

-Acquire values and attitudes

Y.H.S.S has the following characteristics to support academic excellence:

A sense of mission:

The members of the school have a conscious decision to excel in academics. Students’ acquisition of academic skills is considered as one of the most fundamental objectives.

Strong-building leadership:

The Principal, Vice-Principal and the Assistant Principal take the role of instructional leaders of the staff.

High expectation for all students:

All the teachers learn to teach and pupils to learn. Standards are high but realistic. No student is allowed to attain less than minimum mastery of skills of the assigned level. The teachers believe that they have the ability to provide the required instructional program and that all students can master the basic skills they teach.

Frequent monitoring of students can master the basic skills they teach.

Principal, Vice Principal, Assistant Principals and the teachers are aware of constant progress of each student and constantly monitor them through everyday classroom activities to standardize examination.

A positive learning climate:

The school has a positive atmosphere, which is orderly, quiet and responsive to the cognitive development of students.

Sufficient opportunity for learning:

Emphasis is on more tasks and more time is spent on instructional activities. The teachers are aware of manipulation of curricula to suit the needs of the students as well as new methods of teaching that enhances student achievement.

Parent involvement:

The school has broad community/parent support. Parent initiated activities is encouraged and constant touch will be maintained between parents and school on student learning.

In order to enhance and facilitate the above requirements, a structure as mentioned below is formed.
